Emerald Shape

by Yohanan Biton 25 Nov 2024

There are various cuts for emeralds, with the best cut being one that you like. The typical cut for emeralds is the namesake emerald cut, with the asscher and octagon cuts created with the same techniques. Other cuts like cushion and oval are not necessarily less popular, but more unknown as cuts for emeralds. The parallel step-cut creates dramatic flashes of light that gives off a reflection.

The emerald has a hexagonal crystal structure and a hardness of about 7.5 on the 10-point Mohs scale of hardness. This hardness rating decreases, however, with an increase in the number of inclusions in the stone. Most emeralds have many inclusions, and it is rare to find an emerald with only minor inclusions. The Emerald Cut draws its name from the stone most cut in this rectangular shape, the viridian dream, emerald.

Paris Hilton, Beyonce & Jennier Lopez are just a few stars who favor the Emerald Cut. From Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly to most recently Paris Hilton and Maria Sharpova, emerald cut diamonds are one of the most popular engagement ring styles of the moment.

Wearing emerald enhances the intellectual capacity of a person. It develops a person's reasoning ability and mathematical abilities. Emerald is considered to have qualities of the planet Mercury.

In conclusion, the Emerald Cut has long been employed to enhance the richness of colored gemstones. The large table and deep dome prominent in an emerald-cut stone draw the light and the eye inward, deepening and intensifying the color to a captivating effect.
